Born: New Zealand.
Alex is the Director of the Building Biology and Ecology Institute (BBE) and bbe architects practising for the last 20 years in New Zealand. Born in New Zealand he has also lived in Canada and Peru. His passion for energy efficient buildings started in Canada by experiencing frost bitten winters for fourteen years. The most popular method for saving energy at the time was to literally keep the heat in by sealing the house up. Combined with modern materials this inevitably resulted in a indoor pollution problem. As well as the BBE resolving the indoor air pollution question, his motivation to be involved with the Institute was that it represents, to Alex, the most holistic, all encompassing approach to healthier building
